Senegal 18

The Muslim New Year is celebrated in Senegal by young children dressing up in clothes of the opposite sex and going from house to house dancing and playing home-made drums for rice, millet and candy. In the photo, you can see a home-made drum using an old tomato paste can, while the boys on the right are dressed in their sisters' clothes. According to my host father, age 55 years, the kids don’t dance as well as they used to. Photo by Lee Hedrick.
